Posted: Mon, Jan 22, 2007, 7:10 AM ET (1210 GMT)
SS/Loral 1300 satellite illustration (SS/Loral) Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) announced Friday that it has won a contract to build a new communications satellite for Intelsat. SS/L will build Intelsat 14, a 1300-series spacecraft with 40 C-band and 22 Ku-band transponders. The spacecraft is scheduled for delivery in 2009 and will be located at 45 degrees west longitude in GEO, replacing the existing PAS-1R satellite. SS/L said that this contract was the first awarded to the company in 2007, although SS/L announced a satellite contract and a deal to refurbish an existing satellite for a new customer earlier this year.
