Soyuz launch (Energia file photo) A Soyuz rocket launched a Russian military satellite on Thursday. The Soyuz-U rocket lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 9:41 am EDT (1341 GMT) and placed the spacecraft into an unspecified orbit. Russian news accounts identified the satellite, Kosmos 2423, only as a spacecraft "in the interests of the Defence Ministry", although Western analysts believe that it is a reconnaissance satellite.
