Soyuz launches Russian intelligence satellite

A Soyuz rocket launched a Russian intelligence satellite Thursday. The Soyuz-2.1b rocket lifted off at 7:20 am EDT (1120 GMT) from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome and placed the Cosmos 2554 satellite into a highly inclined low Earth orbit. The satellite is thought to be Lotos-S1 No. 5, the latest in a series of electronic intelligence gathering spacecraft.
