Rocket Lab to conduct first Electron launch from Virginia in December
Posted: Sat, Nov 12, 2022, 8:07 AM ET (1307 GMT)
Rocket Lab will conduct its first Electron launch from Virginia next month. The company said Wednesday that an Electron rocket will launch three satellites for HawkEye 360 from its Launch Complex 2 on Wallops Island, Virginia, during a launch period that opens Dec. 7. Rocket Lab built the launch site and hoped to launch from there as early as 2020, but had to wait for NASA to certify an autonomous flight termination system for Electron and other launches there. The three satellites will join 15 that HawkEye 360 currently operates to collect radio-frequency intelligence that can be used to geolocate vehicles and detect GPS jamming.
