SpaceX launches SES, Starlink satellites
Posted: Sat, Mar 25, 2023, 11:20 AM ET (1520 GMT)
SpaceX launched the final two satellites for SES to clear C-band spectrum March 17. A Falcon 9 lifted off at 7:38 pm EDT (2338 GMT) and placed the SES-18 and SES-19 satellites into geostationary transfer orbits. The Northrop Grumman-built satellites are the last SES needs to clear C-band spectrum for terrestrial services, unlocking nearly $4 billion in total incentive payments from the FCC if it can complete that clearing process by December. SES says it is ahead of schedule to meet that deadline. The SES launch came a little more than four hours after another Falcon 9 launched a set of Starlink satellites from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
